Egg Donor Brief and an Example of Expenses

An egg donor is a woman who contributes her egg to the conception of a child for infertile parents. Egg retrieval is done as an outpatient procedure. An egg donor is used in connection with intended parents proceeding with an IVF where the intended mom is carrying the pregnancy or in conjunction with a gestational surrogate carrying the child. An egg donor is particularly appealing when the intended mom is over forty and concerned with egg quality or genetics.

A traditional surrogate is a woman who carries a child which is conceived through artificial insemination. The child created is the result of the intended father’s sperm and the surrogate’s egg. Upon the birth of the child, the surrogate mother signs legal paperwork relinquishing the custody of the child to the intended father and consenting to the adoption of the child by the intended mother.
